X51v water under screen left a horizontal line
I've had my X51v for about 2.5 years, and I've taken rather good care of it. I always keep my PDA's in hard cases, use screen protectors.. I even bought a special stylus that was less likely to scratch the screen. I bought an Invisible Shield for my device to replace the older screen protector which had quite a few blemishes in it (mostly on the most-used letters of the on-screen keyboard).
I used an Invisible Shield on a previous PDA and it worked quite well, so I look forward to installing and using it on this one. I put it on, had a blastedly terrible time keeping the dust off it (there is tons of dust everywhere where I live), and ended up just deciding to quit while I was more or less ahead, with only a few tiny specks on it.
Great so far.. but I turned my Pocket PC on the desk day and found that the whole screen had what looked like a puddle of water under it. I think that what happened was that the spray they give with the I.S.'s seeped under the screen somehow, probably while I squeegeed it. I removed the battery and set my X51v on the floor under a desk and turned the heat on -- the heating where I live heats the floor, so I figured setting it on a book on the floor under some furniture would heat is nicely but not too much, so the liquid would evaporate.
After a few days I replaced the battery and turned it back on, and there was only a tiny bit of water left in the middle of the screen. I removed the battery and set it back on the floor for another day, and then it was fine..
Until I switched to file explorer and noticed, on the white background, a faint horizontal line, about 1/4" thick, that was a bit brighter than the rest of the display and extended from the edge of the screen about half an inch on each side toward the center. When I view my axim from another angle, looking at it with the top facing me more, I can see another similar verticle line to the right side of the display.
If I turn off the backlight, neither line is visible; the screen is perfect from every angle (apart from one small bubble in the screen protector which for some reason hasn't gone away, and a couple pieces of dust), which leads me to assume that it is some fault with the backlight.
I watched the video about disassembling an X51, and decided to remove the front cover and clean around the screen, but unfortunately here in Korea I can't find Any Torx screwdrivers smaller than a T6, so for now it's practically impossible. I'd love to purchase a new iPAQ 21x, but here they cost about $575 (never let Anyone tell you that electronics are less expensive in Korea.. it's a lie), so I'll probably have to wait until I return to the U.S.A., or pay exhorbitant shipping charges.
Do you have any advice for making these lines go away? You can't see them unless the background is a solid colour, like white or grey; they're completely invisible if you're viewing a picture with multiple colours, but they're still annoying to me. Or maybe I could sell it on Ebay for a (hopefully only a) bit less money than usual, and upgrade...
