I don't run any of those but they seem to be in what I would call the normal range of programs that you might have on a pda. Make sure that you have the latest version of them where possible. Like paulcb said above, i have only had to hard reset mine for doing ROM upgrades and soft resets have always fixed all other problems. If you get the refurb and it doesn't have the 12 ROM on it you can just do the upgrade before you load any of your programs. I would suggest that if you do that do one extra hard reset after you are done. I had to do that upgrade a couple of times and the extra reset seemed to clear up some issues like power consumption that popped up. good luck and let us know how it is going when you get the new one.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, and it's really fun chatting with all of you. (And I love your Avitars!)

Regarding the A12 upgrade (God, I've been through it all!), I've done that before and had nothing but trouble with it. My original Axim came with ROM A06. Perhaps I should have done the hard reset after I was done installing A12, but I had NOTHING but trouble. I finally bullied Dell into giving me an Axim with A12 already loaded (this current Axim), and it seemed to work fine.

Regarding my apps, that's what puzzles me. I don't think I'm running anything that would severly tax the device's capabilities, so why so much trouble. I even went so far as to ask Dell if there was anything I could do different "procedurally" to mitigate the cumulative, erratic behavior. Aside from suggesting closing unused (running) applications, Dell wasn't much help. (Go figure.) I already practice "safe computing", e.g., clean the memory regularly with MemMaid and close all unused apps, so Dell didn't tell me anything that I already know. Perhaps, I'm just the poster-child for Axim bad luck. Nonetheless, I could have bought an HP iPAC 211, but I haven't given up on my x51v just yet. I should be receiving the new one in a few days, so I'll keep you all posted.

My god, I would love to have been a fly on the wall at dell if you actually used that sentence when speaking to them.
The look of terror on their faces, as they looked through their script trying to find any words that could possibly relate, would have been a delight.

I like to make people think! (What can I say?) If I were a Dell tech, I'd try to go beyond "the book" to provide the best support possible. (But that's the old way of doing business, I suppose. At least, I speak better English than they do.)

Well, I got the refurbished Axim today. (I honestly didn't expect to receive it so quickly.) Tomorrow, I'll transfer my data and load all my apps. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Thanks for your interest, and I'll keep you guys posted.
