Pocket Informant 8 announced early
Handango has announced Pocket Informant 8 early in an e-mail sent to its customers. The WebIS Homepage, however, still lists Pocket Informant 2007 as the most recent version. Little is known about the new features of this release (yet). Handango is offering its customers an upgrade price of $16.95. It's my guess that users who were given the 2007 version for free will also be offered to upgrade at a discount...

It is now being offered on the PocketInformant web site.

I'd say it was released a bit too early. I've just installed it, changed the font sizes and had it crash.

The install didn't prompt to uninstall the previous version. Also noticed that the installer prompts for the registration but doesn't pass it on to the program on the PPC, meaning you have to enter it again when running Pocket Informant for the first time.

I'm thinking of uninstalling and waiting for the service release that is sure to come in the next couple days.

The truly beautiful thing is that since Aximsite work with WebIS to get version 7 for us for FREE for 2 days, those of us that got that free copy can also upgrade to the new version 8 for FREE too!! How awesome is that? 2 Pieces of software for the price of NONE!

Granted, I'll probably wait at least a few weeks to make sure that the kinks are all worked out of the new release, but it's still great news!

I thought it was just me! The install soft-reset if I tried to install over 2007 version. I uninstalled it and the next install went ok, but the fonts are all too big, and on the agenda page the headers all have different font sizes. I also couldn't find the color schemes that came with 2007, went to the WebIS website and someone put a zip of them out there for me. I want to display the tasks on the agenda page with the days, but the direction in the manual on page 34 doesn't work and the menu items are all labelled differently from the manual. It definitely feels like a beta test version. I may go back to 2007 until it gets more stable.

I agree with the beta feel. However, I am also a bit put off by the absence of the menu bar. The softkey way of doing things is so teidious. I really dont understand why that (The menu bar) was removed. I will pass on this upgrade and stick with the stable and *functional* 07 version

I uninstalled PI 2007, saving the settings when it asked, then installed PI 8.

I'm not particularly fond of the WM5 style bottom bars, but I blame Microsoft for that, not WebIS.

It reinstalled all those color schemes again, so I had to go in and delete them, again.

It also installed a bunch of icons I do not use, so I deleted them, too.

But PI 2007 did both of those things, so nothing new about that with PI 8.

Seems stable to me.

I just purchased PI 2007 about 2 months ago and I love it so I thought I would try the demo version of PI8 but I could not get it to install. I downloaded it again and had the same problem. I guess I will wait awhile and try again.
