CorePlayer (worth it?) How about another media player?
I'm looking for a new media player for my x51v. I have started to use PocketMusic 5.0 and it seems pretty cool. Now I found this one called CorePlayer which seems extremely functional. This one has no trial ware so I don't want to just buy it for the heck of it. Anyone have this one or could recommend another?

PocketMusic and CorePlayer are two different animals. PocketMusic is a MUSIC ONLY player--it doesn't do video. CorePlayer, IMHO, is the best all-around multimedia player; it's H.264 (mpeg4) video support is unmatched. It's a pretty good audio player, too, but doesn't have some features in PocketMusic like skins and streaming.

You should also look into CorePlayer's free predecessor TCPMP (great if you don't care about H.264), and free music-only players like MortPlayer, GSPlayer, and WinVibe. The latter two support streaming. I personally use a combination of MortPlayer for podcasts and CorePlayer for everything else.

Check out COnduit's Pocket Player. It is the best all around media player.

We have also just added You Tube support for CorePlayer Mobile, see: CorePlayer Mobile to add YouTube Support

Also this update includes our advance RTP/RTSP and streaming module. Also to go head to head with other media player in a later 1.2.x release we will support an 'AUDIO MODE' skin... so that when you play any audio file the UI will adjust to a new audio friendly interface.

dgoldring... I admire some of the things that CPP does but for alot of us here its easy to write 'bling' software... the key is to write code in a manner that is the least resources intensive as possible (as well as making the 'core' non- OS specific). This is why we have our own micro sized ANSI C language we call "Core-C". It takes writing small fast code to a new level and why the CorePlayer platform and the embedded decoders work as fast as they do.

Mortplayer is hands down the best Music Player out there, especially with skin support and freeware. For video, try TCPMP. Best video software and with YouTube support as well.

I purchased Coreplayer because I wanted to support the developers and for the use of TCPMP for years. However, I've been so disappointed with the software and find myself using TCPMP more and more. The worst part, the skins document has been out for sometime and I don't see anyone posting new skins. It's probaly too hard for even skinners to follow or the software is being bought but not used (like myself).

I just took a look at Mortplayer and I can't believe it is free? I have to check their site and see if they take donations if I deside to use it. Their vista like skin is very sweet. I still have to try some others yet but this is looking rather nice.

Tcpmp is the abandoned freeware version of coreplayer. It plays many formats, and with a plugin from mobytube.com it can play youtube, google video, etc. Mobytube makes tcpmp is a must. And if u like it since its from the makers of coreplayer, and its abandoned get coreplayer one the bugs are worked out. Which sounds like soon, with integrated youtube support in their product.

Definetly a lesson for all software users to go by. This is why i like tcpmp and coreplayer. Also, most open source programs seem to be written the same.

I have used tcpmp (windows version) to turn older pcs that froze or skipped in wmp, into multimedia machines thanks to tcpmp. Its light on resources (you wont believe how old a pc is and it still works on it) and it acutually plays nice.

We learned alot when writing TCPMP... while ppl think CorePlayer is the same thing... it really isn't... but the concepts on what it was vs what CP is, holds true... next year this will be more evident when our open source BetaPlayer is released.

Well you will not see skins as its NOT enabled on the user interface yet... this does not mean you can't write them now, its just that the entire UI as it stands now will be changing when we release CorePlayer with CoreUI 2.0 our SVG interface.

On updates and fixes.... as we approach 1.5 we will have the ability to PUSH updates in realtime as they become available. This should eliminate the issues of perceptive time between release, At the moment we are hundreds of builds ahead from what is publically available and likely it will be at least 200+ more with then next few weeks before we launch 1.2.

I use Coreplayer and Mortplayer together. Unless the player can play 320kbps MP3 files @ under 208MHz on the Ax, don't even talk to me. Just don't make me carry more extra batteries for your music player that is more fitted to play on the cradle..
