Tutorial: HP48G calculator on your Axim.
So, you want to run a HP48G emulator on your Axim? I made it work with this step-by-step sequence:

Installation:Setup:
  • Now start the program by tapping Emu48.exe (the extension may be hidden).
  • You will be directed to choose a KML script. Choose the .kml script (EngrPaul Real QVGA 48Gx, if you like). Tap ok, then the calculator comes up.
  • Tap No in response to Recover Memory?.
  • You are now ready to rock. Press the On button on the calculator.
  • Save the session (File, Save As...). Your work will still be there next time, and you don't have to select the .kml script.

I sure hope you know how to use a reverse-polish notation calculator. Download other keyboards (.kml) and other ROMs (hp39, hp49, etc) and experiment.

Notes: Under WinXP, without a dedicated .zip program, you can indeed unzip these files, but you have to extract them somewhere on your local hard drive before copying them over to the PPC.
You can also use a program, such as CabInstaller to place the program in Built-in Storage or a memory card.
EngrPaul also has a VGA .kml script, for those of you with a V. Link below.

Many thanks to the HP calculators website: http://www.hpcalc.org/
Thanks also to EngrPaul, for his version of the RealHP48 keyboard. It's my favorite: easy to read and good-looking. The keyboard, not Paul. Well, maybe Paul too, but I really don't know him well enough to say.

Thanks! I'll be checking it out.

UPDATE: the engrpaul skin gave me "fatal error at line 5" error. The wombat skin worked.

I got the same "fatal error" until I remembered to upload the keyboard.kmi file. Also, it's a good idea to make sure you have the qvga version, vice vga. Maybe I'll try to get my sister to visit and install on her X30H.

yup I did have the keyboard.kmi there like you said in the tutorial.

I got mine working nicely now by following this solution,

1. download and install this. It has all the ROMs and other files all packed together for everything to work.

2. download this and replace the exe on PPC with this one (2003 update).

3. DONE!

Does that install through activesync, or directly from the PPC?

Nice to know somebody packed an install. Now why couldn't I find it?

It is a setup file designed to work with activesync. But I just extracted all the CAB files and installed from them.

Is there a third party software that allows you to run an .exe directly from your ppc? Is it even a possible app?

no it's not... the .exe's made to run on a computer are compiled for x86, while the .exe's made to run on a pocket pc aren't.

There are apps that allow you to extract the .cab files from a self-extracting .exe file.

Did you run Emu48.exe, or HP48.exe?

I’ve just published my FULL roundup & tutorial on emulating HP’s calculators at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/emula...ws-mobile.html - don’t forget to check it out.

Also note that I’ve previously published a FULL roundup & tutorial on using TI’s calculators at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...ws-mobile.html - it’s also worth checking out.

(Sorry for the flood – I want all interested parties to take note of these articles. They’re well worth reading, I think.)

Just to make it clear, there are three versions of the bitmap/keyboard files. The errors you are getting may have something to do with which one you are using. Please use the proper set for your screen size.
